Analyse one of your products in relation to genre.

For the AS music magazine, I heavily influenced by the 'Indie', 'Alternative', and cultured guitar movement era. I do believe this influence and inspiration in visible in my work. I wanted on focus on both today's generation of artists, and past generations. For example, my cover band, 'Renaissance' were based on the Manchester outfit, The Courteeners.

The Courteeners are the present, the here and now, and as you can see, are a classic guitar band. They also show inspiration towards bands such as their fellow Mancunians, Oasis.

Within my magazine, I wanted to convey aspects of different inspirations, hence why I called the magazine 'Vinyl', this shows culture, and would attract the eyes of somebody into music of the past. I also dressed the front man in a parka, something that referenced to as being an integral part of the Mod era. Therefore I was hoping to show reference to inspiration and culture, as it's implies my band, Renaissance, are heavily influenced by previous generations.

para 1 Intro: which of your projects are you going to write about? briefly describe it

para 2: what are some of the key features of the concept you are being asked to apply? maybe outline two of the theories/ideas of particular writers briefly

para 3; start to apply the concept, making close reference to your production to show how the concept is evident in it

para 4: try to show ways in which ideas work in relation to your production and also ways in which those ideas might not apply/could be challenged

para 5; conclusion

Post Production - What skills did you develop at the stage of Post Production?

When conducting Post Production, editing was something I used to put my whole music video together, before it came round to editing my music video, I was inexperienced in editing, therefore I was quite concerned that I would struggle to to edit my video to a good standard. Although, I surprised myself, and the editing went better than expected.

Describe the ways in which your production work was informed by research into real media texts and how your ability to use such research for productions developed over time.

During the AS Media piece of coursework, we had to conduct a vast amount of existing Music (preferably) genre magazines, as we were soon to be creating on our music magazine.

If I’m being honest with myself, looking back I was quite naïve when it came to drawing influences from successful products already on the market. I was actually looking at a current magazine, and seeing if there was anything I could do differently, I’d prefer to focus on the negatives, for instance, if I saw a magazine title, and I liked the colour scheme, but I wasn’t a fan of the font, I’d focus in on the font, and look for way’s that I could be different, and improve existing products, whereas what I should have done is, focus in on the colour scheme, which was a positive of the magazine, now I don’t just mean blatantly just copying it, but rather looking for ways that I could incorporate it into my own work. Luckily, during the coursework, with guidance from my teachers, and more logical thinking from myself, I was able to start drawing influence from the positive features on the current music magazines, rather than focusing in on the bad points. After all, they are on the shop shelves because they have been successful, and ‘popular’, especially in design.

As this was something that I had learnt during the AS coursework, it really helped me from the beginning of the A2 coursework, because one of the first tasks that had to be completed was analysing current music videos, therefore when I was analysing videos, I looked for the positive points, instead of the negative, to see what I could adapt to make my own work better. For example, I would look at camera angles on music videos, digest what I’ve watched, and then look to see what would work in my video, in contrast to looking at what doesn't work too well, and not using them, which relies on being completely innovative, rather than using my initiative.

Also, throughout both pieces of coursework, I have tried to keep my research subject/genre orientated. During research, peers who were also working on the coursework, some would look at magazines of a different subject, for example, football or fashion magazines, whereas I just focused in on looking at music magazines, and more in depth than that, ‘Indie’ magazines, because that’s that genre I was following and I wanted to draw inspirations from magazines that had sold to my target audience.

Similar to the previous point, this helped me when it came to creating the music videos, I was once again using a ‘Indie’ genre, therefore I looked solely at ‘Indie’ music videos, because likewise to the magazine, I wanted to create inspirations that had appealed to my target audience.

How have you combined the "Same, but different" (N.Lacey 199) and the "familiar, and the unexpected" (G.Burton 2000) in your final piece?

As I was researching ideas and inspirations for my music video, I wanted to use features, and take aspects from previous music videos, that would help to keep my video simplistic. The best way to do this was by using the music video structure of performance, my video was not the performance, nor will it certainly be the last. This is example of following Lacey's theory of "Same, but different". Also, with my front cover of the ancillary texts, I have used two silhouette's of a humans face, now, these have been used before with music videos, but you rarely see it is this format, for example, The Vaccines "If you wanna" music video uses a silhouette of the band playing. So this would be be where my work has followed Burton's theory.

Creatvity.

Creatvity, a formality that puts adside from the rest of the band, something that makes your imagination unique to all others, but it's how we all adapt and use creativity that makes it so vital. Many people have different views of how creatvity should be used, and how it should bring success, here are a few of those examples...

"An essential aspect of creativity is not being afraid to fail" Edwin Land
"Everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise. The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt" Sylvia Plath
